Helping patients achieve and maintain good health has always
depended on the ability of doctors to make the right diagnosis
and prescribe the right therapies. Today, in addition, residents
entering practice must also be knowledgeable and skilled in
new areas, including practice-based learning and improvement
and systems-based practice. Programs must demonstrate that
their newly trained physicians are competent in improving
their patient care practices, knowing how to work with a team,
and advocating knowledgeably to optimize care within constantly
evolving health care delivery and financing systems.
Online learning provides a solution that is gaining strength
across the country to help residency programs address these
new ACGME requirements. The online format enables residents
to learn at their own pace and time without adding to teaching
loads of faculty or taking away from residents' clinical hours.
THCI's Online Learning Campus also supports residency program
directors and institutional GME officials and directors in
demonstrating their commitment to teaching and assessing the
new competencies.

Online Learning Campus Features
For subscribing programs and institutions,
THCI's Online Learning Campus includes the following:
|
|
Learning modules provide instruction
in areas relating to specific ACGME competencies, and
take about 45 - 60 minutes per module to complete. Click
here for more information. |
|
|
AppLEs Applied Learning Exercises
are associated with each module and provide opportunities
to put knowledge into practice. Faculty assign an AppLE,
and residents engage in practical activities that develop
new skills and competence. Each learning module is typically
linked to up to three AppLEs. Evaluation criteria and
competency-based assessment grids are provided with each
AppLE. Click
here for more information. |
 |
Self-Assessments are
multiple-choice question sets that that measure the respondent's
familiarity with content drawn from THCI's Curriculum
Framework and related to the ACGME competencies of
Systems-based Practice and Practice-based Learning and
Improvement. Click here
for more information. |
|
|
My Portfolio is a personal section
that lets residents track their progress on learning modules,
AppLEs, and self-assessments. My Portfolio also offers
registrants the opportunity to record observations and
reflections on their training experiences and lessons
learned, store personal notes and a CV, and communicate
via e-mail alerts with faculty. |
|
|
Campus Management gives program directors,
faculty, and institutional administrators the ability
to assign; assess; and track, report, and analyze the
educational activities of their target group(s) of learners-all
online. |
|
|
Resources are online
links to supplemental resources and bibliographic materials
cited in the online learning modules, including articles,
reports, websites, glossary terms, and other references.
