Conference Goal
 
The conference gave faculty and leaders of graduate medical and nursing education programs access to best practices and innovations in training clinicians to achieve newly defined competencies for effective practice in the changing environment. The program emphasized Systems-based Practice and Practice-based Learning and Improvement. It featured plenary addresses by national experts and workshops on practical topics, with an emphasis on active learning.
 
Conference Learning Objectives
 

At the conclusion of this conference, participants are able to:

  • Define the rationale, objectives, and content of the "systems-based practice" and "practice-based learning and improvement" competency areas.
  • Plan for a transition from a traditional model of training and assessment to a new model of competency-based education.
  • Identify instructional resources and assessment tools that faculty can incorporate and adapt in their training programs.
  • Implement strategies utilizing a variety of tools and techniques to train new practitioners in systems- and practice-based care and to assess their competence in these areas.
