About the Conference

Tufts Health Care Institute's Annual Conference is one of the industry's cutting-edge events, focused on topics of critical importance to physicians, medical educators and health system leaders. The focus for the Year 2000 Annual Conference is on improving health care system performance through highly innovative approaches to physician development and training.

Many of today's hardest-to-solve health care challenges require new levels of collaboration with physicians, changes in physician behavior, and leadership development. The 2000 conference will provide a forum for physician leaders and health system executives to experience powerful new assessment tools and physician education, training, and information resources aimed at improving performance.

Who Should Attend

  • Physician leaders and other executives of health systems, hospitals, IPAs, PHOs and MCOs.
  • Health care leaders and administrators interested in using interactive learning resources to improve their organization's performance.

Goals & Learning Objectives


This conference is designed to provide strategies and tools to improve clinical practice and health care system performance through educational strategies and resources, including web-based solutions. CONFERENCE GOALS

At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to:
  • Assess the competencies required of physicians and other clinicians to practice high quality, cost-effective care in the new health care environment.
  • Identify learning goals and educational interventions to support improved physician and system performance.
  • Identify and apply web-based solutions to physician education.
  • Evaluate and improve the effectiveness of continuing medical education for individual learners and health care organizations.
  • Acquire practical skills for negotiating change in a health care system.

CME Accreditation


This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas, Policies and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) and Tufts Health Care Institute. Tufts University School of Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

TUSM designates this educational activity for a maximum of 14 hours in Category I credit towards the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Multidimensional Problem Solving: Negotiation Skills for a Changing Health Care System

Health care systems are constantly evolving. As part of that evolution comes the need for health care system leaders to be skilled at negotiating ways to build collaborative and constructive physician/management partnerships to carry their organizations forward. During this interactive three-hour workshop, participants will acquire a set of practical skills and useful tools for negotiating change and resolving the many complex and multi-dimensional issues and challenges that they face, regardless of their role and setting.

This presentation is approved for three hours of CME credits.
